ART IS LIFE AND LIFE IS ART. A phrase that I use quite often. And although perhaps trite; it is indeed true. In fact, there is an intrinsic value this proverb illuminates wildly. It speaks to the importance that authenticity, character and integrity play within Art & Life as well as the ideas and beliefs that provide the framework by which we live and operate within the world we find ourselves navigating.

I am enamored to announce that I have embarked upon a human being and Artist,  Aaron Axelrod, who takes his artistry to a whole new level in a multifaceted and multidimensional way. Axelrod has created a world rooted in the ideas of social interaction, psychedelia and the public space, designed by a quirky and witty mind enlightened and inspired by Walt Disney, Dr. Seuss, donuts and Wu-tang. What a combination! Alexrod, a product of two educators, explain’s in an interview on LAWeekly.com, “Everything I am today is because I had parents who realized what I loved and what I enjoyed, instead of being, like, oh, my son is an artist, eww, get those crayons away from him — take these math books, son, and be an accountant.”

The manner in which the scope of Axelrod’s visual art intellectualizes the Art & Life space simultaneously is vibrantly compelling and worth the adventure of pealing back all of the layers created within the dynamic landscape of the various planets he designs within his universe. A Jedi master and warrior in the disciplines of painting, installation, performance, sculpture and video art; Axelrod is a force to be reckoned with . And whether jourmeying through the prolific messages embedded within his collections in  “Freedom Of The Press”, “Melting Rainbows”, “Greatness Doesn’t Ask Permission”, “Distortions In Government” or even “Pot, Sex and Acid” just to name a few; one thing that is for sure besides being blown away and intrigued with some of the titles, you will be impacted. You are bound to feel a level of conviction after looking pass the surface level of not just the Art presented, but the also the context of Life  in which the Art is presented as well.

Axelrod’s work has been displayed in galleries, museums and public spaces in cities across the country. Collaborations have included projects for Walt Disney,

KCRW, The Tonight Show w/ Jay Leno, TOMS, Myspace, PTTOW!,

Coachella, Skee.TV, Vans, LA Sheriffs Dept. and Google to name a few. A CalArts graduate; Axelrod currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.

And in the spirit of Axelrod, A CalArts graduate still living in LA, CA; we leave all people, who are constantly seeking ways to be better and in alignment energetically as well as authentic, a few words of wisdom that was collected from our encounter with Alexrod’s online universe:

“Be who you are and say what you feel,
because those who matter won’t mind
and those who matter won’t mind”.

– Dr. Seuss
