Money sure does talk, especially when you are on the brink of bankruptcy. Ask someone from American Apparel and they will tell you all about it.

Gildan Activewear won an auction to acquire American Apparel’s intellectual property and manufacturing equipment for $88 million. Since 1989, American Apparrel prided itself on its “Made In America – Sweatshop Free” logo. However, who knows whether or not that legacy will be upheld, with Gildan Activewear being out of Canada.

The L.A. Times was the first to report that by the end of April, American Apparel’s L.A. headquarters along with 110 of its remaining store locations will be closing, resulting in what could be the loss of 3,400 factory positions. That is a lot of jobs.

Sad to hear as we continue to embark upon the journey 2017 has for us.   American Apparel always has had a soft spot in my heart. Some of my favorite leggings and basic pieces has come from there.

Life is constantly evolving and business is ever-changing, especially in this information age. Clothing stores are increasingly having challenges. American Apparel is not the first and it will not be the last.
